The Holy Month of Ramadan
Ramadan, the holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal for Muslims, begins on February 28th, 2025. During this time, life slows down, creating a relaxing atmosphere that is perfect for exploring Oman's beautiful beaches and natural attractions.
While in Oman during Ramadan, there are some important things to keep in mind.
• Most shops and malls will have different hours, with most opening an hour or two later in the morning and closing an hour or two later in the evening. Some small shops may only open in the evenings after Iftar, the evening meal after sunset.
• Markets are typically open from around 9.00 am until 11.00 a.m., and after sunset until around 10.00 p.m. Many shops in the market will only be open in the evening during this time.
• Additionally, many attractions may have reduced hours during Ramadan.
• Restaurants and cafes in cities will generally be closed until sunset.
• During Ramadan, alcohol is not served in restaurants that are licensed to serve alcohol in the city.
• Most 5-star hotels also serve alcohol during this time, either in one of their restaurants or through room service, depending on whether they have received permission from the Oman Police to do so.
• When visiting public places in the city, women are advised to wear clothes that cover their shoulders and knees and men are advised against wearing short shorts and extremely revealing T-shirts.
